Director - LINDA HAYNES
Welcome to December, the season in which we Christians celebrate the birth of Christ. This is also the month we recognize Pearl Harbor Day, a day which was designated by Congress in 1994 as a Remembrance Day to honor and remember 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941.
As we move into thru December, we know that this is the season for counting our blessings and giving. The Riders are doing just that, by contributing to the baskets that the Auxiliary make and provide to needy families in the community, providing a donation to the Shop with a Cop Campaign sponsored by the Sumpter County Sherrif’s Department, and riding in the Toys for Tots Ride on December 7th. Take some time this month to remember those less fortunate than you, and lend a hand, make a visit to someone who is lonely, or bring some cheer to someone who needs it. The Holiday Season is often a difficult time for some this may be your opportunity to “Be the One”.
Please remember that renewal of membership is in full swing, if you have not renewed, please do so before 1 January 25. Other items of interest include: the Christmas Raffle (numerous baskets with gift cards, memberships to Shooters World, and a garden wagon full of cheer). The drawing will be held on 15 December. Tickets are available every Tuesday evening and at the 2nd Saturday Breakfast. Weekly Wednesday rides continue, kitchen duty 1st,3rd, and 5th Sunday, and various escorts throughout the month. Remember to log your miles and hours. The Christmas Party will be in lieu of our December meeting, and we look forward to seeing everyone who signed up.

As we move into November, we are reminded that Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner. Living here in sunny Florida there are many reasons that we can be thankful. As the Director of the American Legion Riders Chapter 347 I am thankful every day that our Riders are healthy and able to ride the streets representing the American Legion. Our safety record is excellent, and we are all thankful for that. Please remember to watch for our brothers and sisters on motorcycles. Last month we lost two riders who were associated with our Chapter, Tom Hogan was a valued member of our chapter, and Lin Marcheggiani was a rider at Chapter 10. Both passed after extensive illnesses. We will miss them and always remember their contributions to the ALR.

NOVEMBER 2024
As we move into September, autumn is closing in and most Americans are reminded of the meaning of Labor Day. A day that we celebrate honor and recognize the American Labor movement by paying tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. Our Legacy Riders rode approximately 2900 miles over the past week and a half, enjoying the majestic beauty of the American Mid-South on the 18th American Legion Legacy Run. The ride consisted of 12 flights consisting of up to 30 motorcycles. As of this writing $2 Million plus has been raised to benefit the Veterans and Children’s Foundation (VCF). Additionally, I am proud to inform you that the Florida Riders earned the Garland Murphy Award for the In State Unity Ride. Once again, we thank all the family members for their support during this endeavor.
Additional items of interest are as follows: Christmas Raffle will begin in October, more information to follow; the District 6 Riders meeting is scheduled for September 14 at Post 63; Poker Run is scheduled February 22, 2025.
